Control Arm Bushings

Control arm bushings work as a hinge for the control arm. Rubber control arm bushings can dampen road noise and vibration and can provide additional suspension resistance and suppress road noise.

Their condition can affect ride quality, handling, wheel alignment and tire wear. Control arm bushings should be visually inspected for distortion, large cracks or splits, off-center condition and indications of excessive movement. Visual observation may be difficult due to the engine and the configuration of the control arm itself.

It is recommended that the vehicle be jounced to determine any noise. Noise indicates that the bushing has separated internally or that the bushing is rotating on the pivot shaft or bolt.

Control arm bushings may be pressed or driven out. New bushings can be installed with a vise, press, or driven in with a suitable driver tool.
